Frank Armour has a marvellous ability to bring out the warmth, character, and emotional splendour of the many woods he uses in his sculptures. Some sculptures are created using different woods bonded together in such a way that the grain of the wood, the differing colours and textures, all complement the shapes and curves of the finished sculpture. He tries, wherever possible, to use recycled or reclaimed woods, which are then treated and varnished using only the very best quality products . Frank sculpts using only hand tools, which he feels enables him to feel the personality of the wood and therefore build a rapport with the sculpture. Franks’ sculptures are very tactile as well as visual and he hopes that the finished result entices the viewer to touch and feel the sculpture and enjoy its texture as well as the shape or form.
